This Tampa homeowner's split system was due for replacement. We pulled the old outdoor unit and the vertical air handler out of the hall closet and installed a matched 3-ton split heat pump: a new air handler in the same closet with a 5 kW heat strip for cold mornings, and a new outdoor unit set on a hurricane pad. We changed the breaker to the size the new equipment calls for, ran a new electrical whip, brazed in the line set, charged the system, checked supply air temperature, and finished with a new programmable thermostat. The job was permitted with the City of Tampa.

Old system out and new system running in one day, permitted with the City of Tampa.

The brief

  • โ†’Replace an aging split system, indoor and outdoor, in one visit
  • โ†’Fit the new air handler into the existing hall closet
  • โ†’Bring the electrical up to what the new equipment requires
  • โ†’Permit the work with the City of Tampa and leave the homeowner with simple controls
